Some east-coast snapshots from the summer




We had a first swim at the new Dun Laoghaire concrete ‘baths‘:

– interesting, but why is there nowhere remotely safe or within eyeshot to leave your stuff? A very impractical swim spot, although the water is usually nice


The historic Vico baths off the rarefied, Italy-themed Vico Road in Dalkey are always like a little same-day holiday:


The Italian name is probably derived from vicolo, a narrow lane or winding alley. Others have linked it to Giambattista Vico. In any case, pronunciation is ‘VEEko’! Don’t worry about how the locals say it.





Nuns Beach in Arklow has a mysterious ‘Hanging Rock’ for picnics, and great views from the cliffs. It’s a hidden beauty accessed through a brutal industrial estate:





And the flowers on Wicklow Head cliffs above Glen beach came and went, again, and were lovely for a moment:
