late December always feels oppressive and stifling to me
the Christmas swims let some light & air in
as the year creaks to an end, again
and tired December gives up its death grip
with a last gasp

Yep, but don’t assume that swimming in winter here in the Mediterranean area is easy. It is true that compared to Northern Europe the weather is a lot milder but in winter the water is freaking cold and even the temperature outside can be cold at times and it is always very humid. But I just love it and one of the things I have in my bucket list is swimming in winter somewhere in the far North. I did it in Finland in autumn but I have to try it in mid-winter

Hi, yes that’s why I asked! … Dublin has a mild winter compared to some southern European countries … I agree, I’d love a cold swim in the far north
