‘If you do not wish to socialise

you will have the whole island

to yourself’

This is true

When the daytrippers have gone, the island is yours alone

Along with the thousands of puffins

and other creatures

that come out in the evening

You might not encounter the other ten or so people left on the island

And the sound of the returning Manx Sheerwaters in the early hours

Is eerie and unearthly

A spectral, alien clatter

Filling the sky

The puffins congregate at The Wick

To see them reserve a room very early

You won’t regret it
