The Saltee Islands are situated approximately 5 kilometers off the coast of Kilmore Quay in County Wexford, Ireland.

To get there you need to book a boat trip on the Saltee Ferry (foot traffic only)

At the Saltee end, it’s a ‘wet landing’ – there’s no dock; a smaller boat will take you near the shore, from where you’ll have to wade through rocks to the island (shallow enough but can be slippery)

Take a fun long lens for the puffins (they don’t come close) and the many different species of noisy bird

The gannet colony is especially fascinating!

A great day out on Saltee Island with plenty of sandwiches and two huge zooms!

Aww! I’m dying to see some Puffins! They’re so stinkin’ adorable! And that baby seagull is also quite adorbs! Will definitely be saving this for a future return to Ireland!

Looks fabulous – although I don’t know the area at all. I spent a week volunteering (counting puffins) on Skomer a few years back and have such a huge soft spot for them!

I’d love to do the puffin counting…

Those puffins look like little clowns but I know they are hardy tough birds. Beautiful photos, all of them.

Oh my goodness, your photos are so wonderful! They make me long to be there. I was telling my father only this week how much I want to see puffins in the wild… #FarawayFiles

Wow, stunning photographs!
I really should visit Ireland sometime, and Wexford in particular as I have some relatives there. I could see the puffins at the same time!

Your photos are fabulous! This brings back memories of our Ireland trip. Although, we had some car trouble and missed our chance to visit the islands and see the puffins…
