West Cork I: around Toe Head

this was a fortnight in West Cork

(south-west Ireland)

at the end of summer

WEEK ONE was a cottage on Toe Head

Stacks, Toe Head cliffs

an edge-of-the-world wilderness on the Atlantic

Sea arch at Toe Head

Toe Head is near to the town of Skibbereen but feels apart

nearby are some intriguing places with magical names:

Leap, Roaring Water Bay, Chimney Cove

Barleycove, Crookhaven, Squince

Sherkin, Inchydoney, Mizen

Ballydehob, Ring, Owenahincha

I grew very fond of passing through cheery Ballydehob

(Schull was least favourite, then Baltimore, which might have had a smug edge

… but yachting types might disagree)
